t54 and Cline Collaborate to Explore Agent Payments for AI Compute
Letting AI coding agents buy compute and model usage within user-set spending limits, with stablecoin settlement.
3 Nov 2026

We're collaborating with Cline to explore how AI coding agents could purchase compute and model usage through Mastercard's Agent Pay for Machines (AP4M), using x402 payment flows with stablecoin settlement.
Our goal is to give Cline users a way to authorize their agents to purchase supported AI resources as part of their work. The collaboration will examine RLUSD settlement on the XRP Ledger alongside other stablecoin options, with permissions that define what an agent can buy and how much it can spend.
Bringing agent payments into the coding workflow
As coding agents take on longer tasks, they may need access to different models or paid services. Together, we'll explore how users could approve spending within the coding workflow and allow agents to complete eligible purchases within those limits.
Mastercard Agent Pay for Machines is designed for permissioned payments between agents and digital services. It builds on x402, a standard that lets a service communicate its payment requirements as part of an online request. The collaboration will explore how that approach could support purchases by coding agents, with the selected stablecoin and network handling settlement.
Connecting spending permissions to transactions
Cline brings the AI coding platform and developer experience. We bring agent-payment and trust infrastructure. The proposed work will examine how our capabilities in agent authorization, transaction-risk assessment and payment evidence could support the purchasing experience, helping connect a user's spending permissions to the actual transaction.
“Users should be able to let their coding agents buy the resources they need while keeping control over spending. With Cline, we're exploring how that could work within the coding workflow.”
— Chandler Fang, co-founder of t54
For Cline users, the intended benefit is a way to purchase supported AI resources from within the workflow they already use. For service providers, the work would explore how to receive payments when agents access those resources. RLUSD settlement on XRPL would connect that activity to a practical use of stablecoins in software development.
Defining the user experience and integration approach
The collaboration will begin with defining the intended user experience and evaluating integration approaches, supported providers and settlement options. Product availability and implementation details will be shared as the work progresses.
About Cline
Cline is the company behind the leading open-source AI coding agent, dedicated to transforming software development through transparent, powerful, and collaborative AI.
About t54
t54 Labs is building the trust layer for the agentic economy. It provides risk and underwriting infrastructure that helps institutions and applications verify agent identity and intent, assess transaction and counterparty risk before money moves, and preserve evidence for compliance and accountability. t54 also develops agentic financial infrastructure that brings these controls to the protocols and financial rails where agents transact.
